Fan Education
In the Spring of 2003 the Museum launched its first Art Program in the local schools. The program consisted of students taking a field trip to the Museum, listening to an educational talk and doing a Find the Fan activity. This is followed by visits to their classroom where the students decorated their own blank paper fans with ink and watercolors. The creative and beautiful fans are displayed in an exhibit in front of the Museum for the parents and community. Over 2000 students enjoyed this innovative approach to fan education!

The Museum plans to expand the scope of this Program to further it's goal of educational enrichment and beginning in the fall of 2009, the first 'Fan in a Box' lecture series will start. The first lecture will be focused on the Revoultionary War and the fans of that period; presented to local 7th and 8th grades. The French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution and the early 20th century will follow.

This creative outreach and Art Program is funded entirely by the sales of items in the Museum store and from generous donations.
